Childcare in College

There are nurseries at St Anne's, Wolfson, Balliol, and Somerville colleges. There are long waiting lists for these places and so it’s advisable to apply for a place as soon as you can. All four college nurseries prioritise place allocation to their own students but also accept applicants from other colleges. Fees also vary between college and non-college members.

University Resources

The University childcare services department provide childcare facilities for matriculated students. There are four nurseries as well as places in private nurseries throughout the city. Each nursery caters for children from four months to five years of age (or school admission age). There are long waiting lists for these places and so it’s advisable to apply for a place as soon as you can.

For student parents finding childcare in school holidays can be challenging. There are a number of local Holiday Playschemes suitable for school age children.

Financial Support

Student Parents can also gain financial support through the University and government for meeting the costs of childcare.

Accommodation

The University and some colleges also provides accommodation for couples and family accommodation.

OUSU run a social network for student parents to share information and resources. If you would like to become involved contact an Advisor.

University Newcomers' Club

University Newcomers Club welcomes spouses and partners of students. The Club provides social opportunities holds an informal coffee morning every Wednesday, and there are also groups that meet weekly, such as Newcomers with children (0-4).
